area of Southern Argentinean Patagonia, because

This
Park is at the South West of Santa Cruz
Argentinean province, and it has an extension
of 700,000 h. It runs from the desertic
steppe to the east, to the Andes mountains
to the West, setting the natural border
with the neighbor country, Chile.
Having 350 Km. From North to South on the
mountains, this National Park includes a
National protected area of 180.000 has.
Its main attraction is ventisquero Moreno,
5 Km. wide and a height that reaches 70
Mts. This glacier ends in Lago Argentino,
the country's greatest (1.500 Km2).

Calafate |

Km far from National Park Los Glaciares,
and 315 Km. far from Río Gallegos, Capital
of Santa Cruz, El Calafate is the main urban
center near the National Park, what makes
it the epicenter of almost every activity.
It is placed on the shores of Lago Argentino,
by Mt. Calafate, and was named after a little
bush, with thorny leaves, often seen in
this region.
With a population of more than 4000 inhabitants,
it has many touristic facilities, where
different tours around National Park and
its surrounds.

Besides
ice caps, lakes and sub-anctartic woods
landscapes and the steppe, inside the park
the imposing peaks of Mt. Fitz Roy (3.405
Mts. high) and Co. Torre (3.102 Mts. high)
can be found in the area of El Chaltén.
Here is where trekking and mountaineering
lovers find their ideal place.
El Chaltén, founded in 1985, is the newest
town in this country. Nowadays it has a
population of about 300 inhabitants, and
an increasing offer in touristic services.
